My sister, Kristen, and I recently were fortunate to be selected to be a part of a photography project at the 2016 I-Heart-Paint-a-New-Home Photo Contest. We’ve been busy over the last couple of months taking photos of homes being painted with our Nikon D500 and D70 bodies. We’ve also been trying to take some time to play around with painting our new home with our Canon EOS 6D DSLR.
We had a great time taking some photos and getting to know the people involved in this photo project. We didnt have a ton of experience with painting, but we did get some tips and tricks from our fellow judges.
Since we were not able to paint our home ourselves, we decided to team up with some of our favorite local artists, who are all offering classes in photography, painting, and DIY. These classes are offered on a first come first serve basis, so we were able to get a couple of classes in before they were scheduled. We also took advantage of the fact that the day of the event was Saturday, so we were able to do most of our classwork during our free time.
First, I’ll give a shout out to the folks at Artwork by Kishna, who were kind enough to give us a tour of their gallery space and hand out some goodies. Second, I’ll give a shout out to the people at Gallery Kishna, who opened up their doors to us and offered us some free instruction.
It was a great day for art, and we were able to learn a ton from the Kishna folks, too. I think this is something that everyone should do at least once in their life, so if you haven’t yet, you should definitely check it out and learn all you can.
Kishna is the third gallery Kishna has opened up, and the one closest to our studio, as well as the one that we went to a lot. The gallery is a little bit out of the way, but it’s a great spot if you’re looking for something a bit more “out there” than the gallery on the street.
Kishna also offers a lot of prints, but we found that its a great place to get prints made of stuff we like. We think it’s important to keep the prints very small, too, because they are very likely to get torn off.
The prints that we found, which were made from the same photos as the gallery, were actually really nice. If you like that sort of thing, I would recommend trying them.

Kishna is a great store to browse through if you are looking for prints. The photos are great.
