This is one of those cases where you wonder if the media would’ve been so bold if they had gone to the trouble of calling the women themselves. However, after reading the article, I am convinced that the three women themselves were not afraid of the media. They were so concerned about the consequences of not having the vote that they decided to make it public.
I doubt they were afraid if the media had made the call. It wasn’t long after the decision that they were telling people they weren’t ready to have a vote. This is something that is common with political decisions in India. In the case of the three women, they were so concerned about their families and careers that they wanted to put it on the record.
I think the most interesting part of their story is that one of the three women had an affair with a man who died in a car accident. Their husbands, who are also alive, came to her house and confronted her about it. The three women are trying to make sense of this and decide whether it should be public.
