Being an effective nurse is a challenging and rewarding job. You’re in an environment where you have to live on your feet and in the trenches, work nonstop and never get a break, and make decisions based on the best interests of the patient.

Staff nurses are the only ones who can get away with doing this because they have the power to make the patient feel better. This isn’t just what nurses do, its what they do. As the saying goes : “Do what you really want to do. Then do it.” And it is indeed always worth doing. So when staff nurses are out there working, they are definitely doing something they are truly passionate about.

The problem with this, however, is that its usually the nurses who are doing something they are really passionate about. The nurses who are working on a caseload, who are on call, taking care of patients, and so on are doing something that they really care about. People who are on call are usually doing something that they truly love, and thats what makes it worthwhile. But the staff nurses are doing something that they are clearly not in love with.
