In the past there were three levels of self-awareness. The first was the conscious level of awareness where you were aware of all the things that happen in your life. Then there was the subconscious level of awareness where you thought about these things sometimes, but less often, than actually doing them. Then there was the conscious level of awareness where you could control your thoughts and actions.
I guess the other thing that I want to add is that you can’t control your mind unless you have an understanding of what you have. For example, if you were to come into a house with a large open door, you might be able to open it and see the inside. If you’ve never had to deal with that door you’ll probably have to go into the house with a larger open door to get to that door.
The thing is you can’t do any of this without awareness. You have to come to terms with the fact that you are the one who is on the other side of the door. For example, a person in a house with a large open door is the one who knows that he is in the house. In that case, he is the one who can open the door. That’s awareness. All other thoughts are distractions.
The same applies to the door, so if you are aware that you are in the house you can open the door for yourself. Otherwise you have to go through the house to open the door. Thats awareness.
Awareness can be a great thing, but it can also be a curse. If you don’t realize that you are still in the house and that you are the one in the house, you can end up being trapped. Your awareness has to be strong enough to overcome ignorance. Otherwise you will end up in a place that you can’t control.
The door can be the most dangerous part of the home because even though you can be “aware” of your surroundings, you are still trapped inside the house. I think this is a metaphor that might be useful for the rest of you to understand. So if you don’t know what a trap is, think of it like a door that only opens when you are ready to go in. In this case, the trap is that the door does not open when you are not ready to go in. It’s the door you can’t get to by using your key at all.
The analogy reminds me of the way we tell someone something. I know that I dont want to tell you that you shouldnt drink any alcohol, but if you said, “What are you doing?” you would get really scared and start drinking. You would get more scared if you had never been in a situation like that before.
