In terms of learning about the world, the ability to read between the lines, and the ability to question why things are the way they are is a key component of self-awareness. In terms of developing the ability to control our own behavior, this is harder to do, but it can be done. The brain is a fantastic organ, and we don’t have to look far to find examples of the benefits of self-awareness.

In the same way that a person with a full awareness of their surroundings (and the things they see around them) learns to play tennis, a person with no awareness of themselves (or of their surroundings) will not necessarily play tennis. It will be impossible to read between the lines and see if someone is trying to con you out of money or if your sister is playing some sort of prank.

No, a person with no awareness won’t look for a way to do anything about it, but just as a person with no awareness of their surroundings will not look for a way to avoid being caught.

If you’re not careful though, you can end up in the hands of a person who does have awareness and who is after you. It’s not that you can’t escape that kind of person, it’s just that you’re going to end up in the hands of someone who is trying to take something from you.
